Dear SAAPS Members

This brief interim communiqué is, first, to ensure that you have the contact details for the new SAAPS Executive Committee, which was elected / constituted at the Biennial Conference in Umtata (details below).

In particular, I wish to introduce you to our new Secretary-Treasurer, Dr Thabisi Hoeane. This email will reach you via his office.

Second, we bring you the news that we are currently obtaining the final quotes to get the long-awaited SAAPS website going. We anticipate that the website will soon become our major channel of communication with members.

Third, and in the interim, we shall directly forward to you select news items, including conference announcements and calls for papers. We have already collected a number of these, and Thabisi will be forwarding them to you within the next couple of days.

Finally, early next year we shall be updating you on all anticipated SAAPS Council projects.

The new SAAPS office-bearers and executive committee members are:

  • President: Prof Susan Booysen (Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University)
  • Vice-President: Mr Gampi Matheba (University of Johannesburg)
  • Secretary-Treasurer: Dr Thabisi Hoeane (Rhodes University)
  • Dr Somadoda Fikeni (National Heritage Foundation)
  • Ms Lubna Nadvi (University of KwaZulu-Natal)
  • Mr Anthoni van Nieuwkerk (University of the Witwatersrand)
  • Dr Stephen Louw (University of the Witwatersrand in his capacity as Politikon editor)

SAAPS council comprises both the six persons above and, in alphabetical order:

  • Mr Pieter Fourie (University of Johannesburg)
  • Dr Cheryl Hendricks (Centre for Conflict Resolution)
  • Dr Eddy Maloka (Africa Institute of South Africa)
  • Mr Phil Mtimkulu (University of South Africa)
  • Prof Yolanda Sadie (University of Johannesburg)
